TUTORING
A Bat Mitzvah is a meaningful and personal journey where your daughter will learn what it means to step into Jewish womanhood.
Together, we explore our heritage and the chain of strong Jewish women throughout history matriarchs, leaders, and role models who continue to inspire us today. She will learn about the unique mitzvot entrusted to women, and how they connect her to the generations before her.
The lessons can also include practical skills, like learning to read Hebrew, building a small Hebrew vocabulary, and reciting a tefillah (prayer) or a chapter of Tehillim, helping her feel comfortable and confident with Jewish practice.
Each session is designed to give her not only knowledge but also a personal sense of connection, pride, and responsibility as she becomes a Bat Mitzvah.
MITZVAH PROJECT
The Bat Mitzvah girl is encouraged to choose a Tzedaka or Mitzvah project (such as volunteering his time or raising money for a charitable organization) in honor of her Bat Mitzvah.
CEREMONY OPTIONS
1. Shabbat Morning Service & Kiddush
Join the regular Saturday morning service at the synagogue. Male family members may be called up to the Torah for an aliyah, and the Bat Mitzvah girl will deliver a personal speech (D’var Torah). A celebratory Kiddush lunch can follow, shared with the community. This option offers a traditional synagogue setting and a meaningful community experience.
2. Candle Lighting Ceremony
Held on any day of the week, this ceremony features family members and friends coming up one by one to light a candle and offer a blessing to the Bat Mitzvah girl. She also delivers a speech. This is a beautiful, symbolic way to involve loved ones and can be hosted in a more intimate, personalized setting.
3. Havdallah Ceremony
Taking place on Saturday evening after Shabbat ends, this ceremony includes a brief, moving service to mark the transition from Shabbat to the new week. Family members pour small cups of wine or grape juice into a shared "cup of blessings," each offering a heartfelt wish to the Bat Mitzvah girl, who also gives a speech.
4. Mitzvah Auction
An engaging and interactive way to highlight the three special mitzvot of Jewish women: lighting Shabbat candles, baking challah, and maintaining family purity. Guests choose a mitzvah they’d like to embrace or improve upon and "bid" on it in a silent auction format. It’s inspiring, fun, and deeply meaningful.
5. Challah Bake
Women gather together to make challah from scratch while learning about the spiritual significance of the mitzvah of separating challah. The Bat Mitzvah girl delivers a speech, and the environment is warm, hands-on, and empowering.
All of these ceremony styles are flexible and can be mixed, matched, or adapted to reflect your family’s values and vision. I’m happy to help craft something truly personal and special.
VENUE OPTIONS
You’re welcome to host the ceremony at the synagogue. If you’re considering that option, you can find pricing and venue details here:
